Unit 3 Reflection

Unit 3 Reflection My Unit 3 Assignment was my favorite assignment I have done in WRT 205. I enjoyed this assignment because I was able to interact with my friends and ask them their opinion on iPhone updates, and use technology to present my findings. Throughout the semester in WRT 205 I have been researching apple’s motivate to update the iPhone frequently, and people’s reactions to it. As a college student I am surrounded by technology and always am hearing my classmates opinions when a new update comes out, so when choosing my topic to research for assignment 3, I knew this would be an interesting topic. While younger generations seem to adapt to technological change better than older, I found that an overwhelming of those asked, did not approve of the updates for three main reasons.  The first reason many did not like the new update was simply that they found it confusing. Tasks that were once quick and simple, now seemed to be a challenge. The second reason it...

Graphic Novels

I run a book club at Hughes Elementary School in Syracuse. I often find that graphic children novel’s have a hidden meaning that applies for adults as well. One of my favorite graphic novels since I was a child is The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. While this novel was meant for children, as an adult I am able to relate more to it then I was able to as a child. To write this book Shel Silverstein uses technology to get the images and words on paper. The main takeaway from this novel is the concept of giving and taking. In the beginning of the novel, a little boy visits a tree daily and plays with the tree and they both are happy, as the little boy grows up he visits the tree less and less, yet the tree still gives the boy apples and her branches. The tree in the novel gives and gives to a little boy until she has nothing left to give to the boy. Imagery in this novel helps bring the message to life. Technology is important in novels as well as in electronics. Without technology p...

Film Review

I watched the documentary on netflix “Living on One Dollar”.   After watching this documentary I read reviews on it. The reviews were posted on IMDB. The reviews were mostly a summary on the documentary, while adding in personal opinions. I also realized that the title of the reviews, were their main takeaway from the film. Jorgen Senbiz titled his review “a good approach to presenting a persistent problem in a new way”. Three main rules I believe are important in writing a review are 1. Briefly summarize the documentary 2. State personnel opinions 3. State main takeaway from the film. It is important to briefly summarize the documentary so the readers understand what you are referring to. Stating personal opinions is important in a review because if a majority of the reviews are bad, readers will not want to watch the documentary. In reverse if the reviews are good, viewers will want to watch. Lastly, I feel it is important to write about the main takeaway in a review because i...

Unit 2 Reflection

While choosing what to write about for Assignment #2, I thought about a topic I’d like to read about if I were the audience. I wrote my piece hoping that a majority of the population can relate to it, especially those reading my writing, college students. Most people have iPhones and have opinions on the update. For my Unit 2 Project I decided to take a survey asking students if they liked the updates the iPhone provided, or disliked it. My writing discusses the outcome of the survey. I began my writing by explaining the concept of change by saying “Every individual handles change differently. Regardless of whether or not the change is a major change, or minor, some will embrace it while others struggle. Reactions to change effect how individuals cope in everyday life...When it comes to technology, change is inevitable and unavoidable. While many of these changes serve to better our lives, I have found that most individuals are hesitant to embrace technological changes right away. D...

Unit 2 Profolio

Every individual handles change differently. Regardless of whether or not the change is a major change, or minor, some will embrace it while others struggle. Reactions to change effect how individuals cope in everyday life. I have found that those with a “go with the flow” outlook, tend to adapt to new situations better than others. When it comes to technology, change is inevitable and unavoidable. While many of these changes serve to better our lives, I have found that most individuals are hesitant to embrace technological changes right away. Depending on how it is viewed, the new iphone update may be considered either major or minor.  However, it is clear that opinions on this change are strong either way. Cellular phones are a huge part of our lives, and these updates do affect us in one way or another. For my Unit 2 Project I decided to take a survey asking college students if they approved, or disapproved of the new iphone update. While younger generations seem to adapt t...

Unit 2 Freewrites

This free write was my favorite because pitching the idea of starting a book club in Syracuse, NY opened my eyes to the different type of education children in poverty are exposed to. I went out of my comfort zone to pitch this idea and it paid off.
