What I...

“What I…”
The concept of “selfies” became a trend in 2013. Almost every day I pass by people taking a selfie whether it’s for instagram, snapchat, facebook, or twitter. People take selfies to show the world what they’re doing such as eating, sleeping, or doing homework. These are all reasons for someone to take a selfie, no matter how silly it may seem. I am guilty of falling into the selfie trend, especially when it comes to snapchat. My friends and I do not communicate through text throughout the day, instead we use snapchat to send each other selfies of what we’re doing. People are so caught up in social media and keeping up with what others are doing that no matter how pointless the selfie seems, it is looked at by the person’s followers and often given a like. Some people post selfies because when they receive likes and comments, it makes them feel good about themselves-it is a confident booster when you get a lot of likes. In the “What I Eat” photo project, many individuals are photographed with a variety of food from all around the world. The reason for this could be to show others what they’re eating, or even for themselves to keep track of what they’re eating. It is interesting to see different people’s lifestyles and what food they choose to eat depending on their schedule, where they live, and what they like.

Reflection

Reflecting on Assignment #1 has opened my eyes to not only the positives of technology, but the negatives as well. Many of my sources focus on the negative effects of technology such as cyber bullying, less face-to-face communication, and the lack of thinking that comes with technology. In my first article, “Technology and Society” by Karehka, she says, “Technology by itself is not harmful to the society, but the way society uses technology to achieve specific goals is what results into negative impacts of technology on the society.” This quote stood out to me because it is like anything else in life, nothing is truly bad unless someone makes it bad. Technology can be extremely beneficial to society, but the way society uses technology is what can make it negative. For example, cyber bullying comes from technology, which is a negative effect, but it is not technologies fault people cyberbully. The only thing technology does to contribute to cyberbullying  is it gives the people...

Unit 2 Freewrites

This free write was my favorite because pitching the idea of starting a book club in Syracuse, NY opened my eyes to the different type of education children in poverty are exposed to. I went out of my comfort zone to pitch this idea and it paid off.

Unit 2 Reflection

While choosing what to write about for Assignment #2, I thought about a topic I’d like to read about if I were the audience. I wrote my piece hoping that a majority of the population can relate to it, especially those reading my writing, college students. Most people have iPhones and have opinions on the update. For my Unit 2 Project I decided to take a survey asking students if they liked the updates the iPhone provided, or disliked it. My writing discusses the outcome of the survey. I began my writing by explaining the concept of change by saying “Every individual handles change differently. Regardless of whether or not the change is a major change, or minor, some will embrace it while others struggle. Reactions to change effect how individuals cope in everyday life...When it comes to technology, change is inevitable and unavoidable. While many of these changes serve to better our lives, I have found that most individuals are hesitant to embrace technological changes right away. D...
