Reflection

Reflecting on Assignment #1 has opened my eyes to not only the positives of technology, but the negatives as well. Many of my sources focus on the negative effects of technology such as cyber bullying, less face-to-face communication, and the lack of thinking that comes with technology. In my first article, “Technology and Society” by Karehka, she says, “Technology by itself is not harmful to the society, but the way society uses technology to achieve specific goals is what results into negative impacts of technology on the society.” This quote stood out to me because it is like anything else in life, nothing is truly bad unless someone makes it bad. Technology can be extremely beneficial to society, but the way society uses technology is what can make it negative.
For example, cyber bullying comes from technology, which is a negative effect, but it is not technologies fault people cyberbully. The only thing technology does to contribute to cyberbullying  is it gives the people the resource to cyber bully. Another example is texting and driving. Technology allows people to text and drive, but if it the person’s choice if they choose to use technology in this harmful way.
My second source was very interesting to me, technology is always changing, even when people are content just the way it is. The new iPhone X is already being discontinued due to technical problems. The previous iPhone worked just fine, but apple felt the need to make a newer, “better” phone, which ended in disaster. This example of technology changing reminded me of the quote “The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.” Technology keeps changing but it seems to be changing for the worse, not the better.
My third source was something very relatable to me, cyber bullying. The video I watched shows how common cyber bullying is, because it is so easy for people to hide behind a computer screen and anonymously bully someone. I see cyber bullying occur way to often, and it doesn’t seem to be going away, because technology is not going away.

  1. I think it would be beneficial to elaborate more on your reflection! For example, talk about the quality of your sources or do you see yourself using these sources for the next two assignments.

Unit 2 Freewrites

This free write was my favorite because pitching the idea of starting a book club in Syracuse, NY opened my eyes to the different type of education children in poverty are exposed to. I went out of my comfort zone to pitch this idea and it paid off.

Unit 2 Reflection

While choosing what to write about for Assignment #2, I thought about a topic I’d like to read about if I were the audience. I wrote my piece hoping that a majority of the population can relate to it, especially those reading my writing, college students. Most people have iPhones and have opinions on the update. For my Unit 2 Project I decided to take a survey asking students if they liked the updates the iPhone provided, or disliked it. My writing discusses the outcome of the survey. I began my writing by explaining the concept of change by saying “Every individual handles change differently. Regardless of whether or not the change is a major change, or minor, some will embrace it while others struggle. Reactions to change effect how individuals cope in everyday life...When it comes to technology, change is inevitable and unavoidable. While many of these changes serve to better our lives, I have found that most individuals are hesitant to embrace technological changes right away. D...
